icy puddle

Isn’t it funny that how much I feel sick,though; once going out with a camera, I forget time and cold temperature.

This is a Mayumi dropped in a puddle and caught in ice this morning.



真っ赤だった真弓の色が抜け、実も落ち、ついには次々に落下している。
水たまりに落ちた真弓は、朝の寒さで氷に捕らえられていた。

Snow

We had a little snow today.


I live in Gunma.
Every year, many people who live in western Japan ask me, knowing me live in Gunma,
“It must be so much cold in Gunma.” “Oh, you must have heavy snow in winter.”

But actually not. It is not true.
群馬と言ったっていささか広うござんす。

Ophiopogon japonicus リュウノヒゲ

I found blue small balls come out from ivy leaves in my yard.　リュウノヒゲ。
It seems to be called “Ophiopogon japonicus” in English.
In the spring, 竜の髭 has deep green seeds, which is soooo beautiful color, maybe you want to keep as an ornament on your finger.
I missed the beauty ones last spring; I'll never pass up this year.
Looking up the name, oh, I happened to know that “Japonica” is name of 椿.
Hmm.., but 椿 is camellia, right?



青いリュウノヒゲの実が蔦の葉っぱから突き出ているのを見つけた。
リュウノヒゲ（ジャノヒゲ）は春になると宝石のような美しい実を持つ。
去年は見過ごしてしまったので、ことしは見つけなくちゃ。

調べていると、私の辞書は　”Japonica”　を「椿」と書いてあるのに気づいた。
椿はcamelliaでしょう！　まあ、camellia japonicaというならわかるけれど。
ジャポニカだけで椿というのはちょっと苦しくない？

ジャポニカは学習帳だと思ってた。（笑）

Narcissus/ Narkissos

水仙　Narcissus.


Latin form of Greek Narkissos, myth name of a vain youth who fell in love with his own reflection and eventually was turned into a daffodil know as the narkissos.
Narkissos may have been derived from the narke(Greek), numbness.



ギリシャ神話に出てくる美少年、Narcissusは水面に映る我が身に恋をし見とれているうちに1本の花に化し、スイセンとなった。
自分に酔いしれる人をナルシストというのもここから来ている。



また、Narcissusは、ギリシャ語の「麻薬」を意味する「narke」から出た言葉で、Narkissosとも呼ばれてもいるようだ。

また水仙の球根にアルカロイドという神経をマヒさせる成分も含まれていることから、ギリシャ語では"narke"（麻痺・しびれ）から　Narkissos　とも呼ばれるそうだ。

・・・そういえば、水仙の花は、下を向いてうっとりと咲いているようにも思える。

Roubai (Japanese allspice) 蝋梅

The photo is Roubai in my parents' home.

Because of few flowers are blooming at this cold season,
This Roubai is conspicuous everywhere.

Rou（蝋）means wax, and Bai（梅)is Japanese apricot.

Those petals are waxy and trancelucent so that we call them RouBai.
People say the scent is sweet and good; however, I don’t think so; too powerful for me.
